Description

Working my way round the antipodes - *kirilee, *Tasastock, ~dazzle-stock =CathleenTarawhiti - and now `faestock. The source photo for this one is here [link]. SO much more of hers I want to paint and expect it won't be long until another one appears here.

Painted with Winsor & Newton acrylics using (deep breath) Phthalo green, Naples Yellow, Pale Terracotta, Titanium White, Burnt Umber, Winsor Blue, Cadmium Red (Hue) & Cadmium Yellow (Hue). Cadmium is expensive and I've got a feeling it's poisonous too so I'm happy with the modern pigments. Note: no black. It wasn't in my starter kit which freaked me out for a bit until I read this [link]. I will restrict my love of dense impenetrable black to working with ink. I added pale terracotta and Naples yellow to the starter kit because I knew I'd be painting a lot of skin, but I don't think I need anything else right now. Tempted by cadmium orange, must resist. There are about a bazillion colours in her hair as I kept mixing and remixing trying to get it right. The only tube that wasn't used for the hair colours was pale terracotta, and my palette was very messy by the end. The canvas effect on the paper is driving me nuts, and has introduced me to a new experience: swearing at a piece of paper. As ever, lots I don't like about this, but I'm not going to harp on about it as this is all learning. I'll get self-critical again soon enough.

Love the skin tone <3 And lovely job on the hair.

My painting professor did not let us buy black paint until we'd learned to mix it from the colors we already had, and even then we had to swear to mix another color into it when we did use it. I've used a spot of mine all of twice, now white, that I go through like mad. I might have to go pick up some pale terracotta though, that sounds handy.
